Commission Piece " Deja vu"

29th January, 2013

MOVING ON -- I'm back to my Commission piece now, after a short break for deadlines at College. I've taken a picture of the piece, with paper and material that I have machine and hand stitched. I must say that the machine stitch didn't work very well and that I resorted to hand stitch. I did a variety of stitches, including:-  French Knots, Fly stitch, Straight stitch and Satin Stitch. Well that was a good experiment, so now to move on to transfering a picture onto material, that has been prepared  with watercolour paints.

The detail around the bricks looks good and I also like french knots.

Sketchbook Work - Commission

10th January, 2013

Sketchbook work continued :-

Moving on :-

Having decided that the black and white mono one was liked and with a bit of colour added.
I now need to do some more experimenting  with paper and materials.
I have prepared some pieces of cotton, slightly larger in size with watercolour wash.

Sketchbook Work continued:-

I decided to start a bit of a design board by having a copy of the 3 storey building of Deja vu  - a photo image and also the sketched pieces of the shop front and the shop front window.

Onto a piece of prepared cotton (Watercolour wash) I attached some pieces of magazines cuttings, showing different designs and textures, into this I then did some hand stitch to enhance the  line of the pattern. This was to see if the pieces on the cotton would stand stitches over the top. They had just been fixed with some waterproof wood glue, this being as it was more flexible to work on once dried.

Sketchbook Work continued:-

I decided to experiment with different stitches and see which I may be able to use to enhance the lines and detail.
From this pages I progressed onto cotton canvas.

I prepared 3 small pieces of cotton with a watercolour wash, I then decided to cut my sketchbook into 3 (landscape) this was as the shop was a 3 storey building.
With a Sharpie pen I sketched out the shop, this was too thick of a line so I think I'll have to get a thinner nibbed pen. I think the sharpie was good though as it didn't bleed into the cotton and the wash.
I then stitched running stitch around the bunting to bring a bit of colour into the piece and also some seeding stitch in various colours to show detail on the standard lamp and upholstered chair.

Sketchbook continuing on:-

This page I decided to sketch, again in black ink and adding pieces of magazine cuttings to show the material of the upholstered furniture.
This picture is of just the shop front Deja vu.

Another page of just the Shop front but roughly drawn with added pieces of magazine cuttings, in black and white tones to give a mono effect.

Happy New Year!

After having taken photos I did a sketch of the front of the Shop in black ink and on prepared paper (Watercolour wash)
I could add much more detail.

For this page I photocopied the original sketch, and then transferred it to my sketchbook. I then added pieces of old dress patterns to use as the lines for the detail of the sketch. On top of this I used a watercolour wash in brown shades.
I quite like this page.
