FDA Business Studies and Legislation

For the Business Studies and Legislation, Creative Enterprise Project -:
My proposal is to make a Handmade Tag.

This will be used when an item is sold and packaged up then the tag will be added to the bag(this will not apply to cards, as they will be wrapped in a decorative bag)
I am wanting to make this tag so it can be kept as an ornate object and not be discarded, I am hoping to add my contact details on the reverse side.
I have picked the 'Heart' motif as I love the heart shape. I am hoping to make the heart out of handmade felt.
I will be experimenting with different methods of making felt so it is robust and will withstand embellishing.
I shall list the technology and machinery to be used and also if I need to engage any staff to assist in the production.
I may also research into competition for the branding aspect of this tag, just to see what other Artist's brand their work.
I need to research the financial side of this project, costing of the product and suppliers of the raw materials.

HEARTS

Symbol of romance and beauty, they are charming tokens of love and affection.
Hearts will make a special occassion even more memorable.

Hand-made felt

Using a HEART  Stencil

I am going to try next with a piece of hand-made felt but finish it off by washing in the washing-machine, no soft rinse though.
I'm hoping it will adhere together so making it more substantle and won't fall apart!

15th January,2013

Having washed in the washing machine a piece of hand-made felt, I then dried it over night.
The result was quite different to the hand-made felt that was just rolled with hot water then left to dry.

As you can see from the photo, the piece on the left was made by the rolling method with soapy hot water, then left to dry. The piece on the right was put into the washing machine, firstly it has shrunk and also lost it shape, I did reshape it when I took it out of the washing-machine, then dried it over night.

The piece on the left looks and feels more wool like, soft and cotton wool like, but doesn't look combined together enough to withstand a lot of wear and tear, fine for a picture on the wall though.
The piece on the right looks and feels more matted together, but still quite soft to touch. You can't guarantee the shape will stay as going through the washing machine cycle has battered it about somewhat. I don't think I'll worry if I were to cut around a heart stencil, as I'm quite sure that it will hold together and may even stand being left without putting onto a card.

Moving On!

I have used the stencil both big and little to cut around,  the felt has held together quite nicely and I have decided that the small heart motif will be better to use and cheaper to reproduce at a later date.
The card I have settled on is brown card , this I have shaped to a V and put a hole in the middle of the `V' and I have decided to use a piece of "Handmade with Love"(heart motif)Tape/ribbon and to the card I have added my new address label in the middle at the bottom of the tag, then the heart is placed at a slight angle on the right hand side at the top of the tag.
I am very pleased with the tag and look forward to see people's reaction to it.
This bit of my blog isn't so detailed as I am working to deadlines and am trying to spread myself about on different projects.- Not enough Hours in the day !!!
But keep watching my progress as I am sure I will learn to balance my time better.!!!
